The Connie Project

The Connie Project is a book which lays out like a card game. This true story recounts a single event, the death of a young family member, told from four points of view.

Each family member was provided with the same prompt, tell me what it was like for you when Connie died. Then each person was recorded in isolation; none knew what the others had said. The words on the cards were transcribed exactly as they were spoken. Strikingly each person told the story of a single moment, something that none of them had ever talked about.

Several months later the participants and their families gathered and each person read their words back to the group placing their completed cards onto the game board.

As the story completes itself, new text and images become visible as the cards build a secondary story that is only visible once each card is read and placed on the board.

This project has been presented at nursing conferences and utilized as a tool to speak about unresolved grief.
